Dave & Kim are racing at Grimley this season.
July 18th Hot 1600 Rods Race 1
After practise it was noticable that Dave had made vast improvements to this dads car.
Kim was on the inside slot of the second row on the grid. He got off to an excellent start to move ahead of the car (no 51), which had been alongside him on the grid. Over the next 5 laps, he had a good clean race with 51, who then fell away. His place was taken by car 169, who raced Kim all the way to the chequered flag. Kim held his race line to finish ahead of him in 3rd place.
Hot 1600 Rods Race 2
Kim, again started on the second row, behind cars 666 & 109. They all got off to a good start, & for 5 laps he kept pace with them, waiting for an opening to enable him to overtake. Then the 2 front cars came together, allowing Kim to take the lead, closely followed by car 169, again! Kim held his place until the penultimate lap, when he drifted wide on the top bend, allowing 169 to move into the lead. Kim finished in a very creditable 2nd place. At the end of the race, the starter presented him a lollipop in recognition of his clean & safe drive throughout the race. Things were certainly looking up after all the problems he had encountered up to now.
Hot 1600 Rods Final
Kim started on the front row. On the rolling start, before he got to the start line, he was hit from behind by car 109, causing him to spin. As the race had not actually started, the cars reformed on the grid. On the second restart, he was in the lead, when he was rammed from behind by 109, AGAIN!!!!, resulting in a broken driveshaft, which ended his race.
Kim made an official protest against car 109, but, as yet, the result of the enquiry is not known.
It was a disappointing end to a very promising days` racing.
F2 Outlaw- Race 1
Dave had made some alterations to his suspension set in an effort to improve the handling characteristics, & changed his carburettor to try improve his power.
He started on the front row of the grid, but ground to a halt coming off the 1st bend, ending his race. Back in the pits he found some crap in the carb that had starved the engine of fuel.
F 2 Outlaw Race 2
Dave, again started on the front row. He got off to a good start & held the lead for the 1st four laps, but then his lack of power became evident as he was passed by 4 quicker cars He then a close race for 5th place with Geoff Bunn, car 930.He was able maintain his position to finish 5th.
F2 outlaw Final
Dave started on the front row, as before. Again he got off to a good start & held the lead for nearly half the race. Yet again, his lack of power prevented him from keeping the lead, he was passed by several cars to put back into 5th place, where he finished the race.
The results are getting better but the car is still a long way from its peak performance.
Dave still managed to rack up some useful points.
